ON JULY 1st 140 GOLFERS WILL HIT THE GREENS TO FIGHT LUNG CANCER

THE CANADA DAY OPEN JOINS FORCES WITH NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE TO OBTAIN OUR GOAL

OF $25,000  IN SUPPORT OF RESEARCH AT PRINCESS MARGARET HOSPITAL

We are thrilled to join The Canada Day Open in support of Princess Margaret. Everyone who participates in this event will be contributing to the cause. The tournament started 14 years ago. It started out with a group of 2 teams and has grown to an astonishing 36 teams this year. The event has raised funds for many charities, such as The Wounded Warriors Canada, The Chaney Wenjak Fund, and the Ukraine.

This year our event is SOLD OUT, but we have lots of opportunities for you help us with our cause.  You can support our initiative by donating an item to our online auction, provide a promotional item in our swag bag or simply by donation or sponsoring the tournament. All funds raised will support the John Perkis Fund at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. Please contact me if you would like to make a donation to our online auction which will go live on June 1st.

On average, 82 Canadians will be diagnosed with lung cancer every day. On average, 57 Canadians will die from lung cancer every day. Lung cancer stigma, whether real or perceived, can be a barrier to quality care and support. Efforts to reduce stigma are key to improving care for people diagnosed with the disease.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in May 2020, because I received the standard of care for lung cancer, we were able to keep the cancer stable for 15 rounds. I had progression the following year and was referred to Princess Margaret Cancer Care Centre where I became a patient of Dr. Sacher's. He is one of the leaders in clinical trials for the KRAS and EGFR mutation. I became one of the first in the world to start a clinical trial with Genentech GDC 6036. My quality of life improved 100%. After almost 2 years, I started to show progression and have been moved to a new arm of the trial. With continued research I hope to be able to manage my cancer for many years.

We would be honoured if you would consider becoming a donor to the John Perkis Fund at Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation by means of partnership, sponsors, and donations in our golf tournament. My family, friends and I are so thankful for the research that Dr. Sacher and his team have done for lung cancer patients. This research will help with research and new treatments.
